The Redding Civic Center complex, which is currently home to City Hall, the City Council Chambers, and the Community Room, opened after much anticipation in February 2000. This was a five-year project that started in 1997 and included the input of a 25 member Citizens Committee. The total cost to construct the current Civic Center facilities was $23,000,000. Included in this cost were the plans and specifications, the City Hall, City Council Chambers, and Community Room buildings, landscaping, parking, property acquisition, demolition of old buildings, telephone and data systems, fixtures, and furnishings. In the future, the site could include a public safety building and a library.

Architectural services for the Civic Center project were provided by the northern California based firm of Nichols, Melburg & Rossetto. For the current facilities, Allen L. Bender, Inc., of Sacramento was the contractor, Sharrah Dunlap Sawyer of Redding provided engineering and planning services, and the landscaping was provided by Land Image of Chico, California.
