2007 Creek Clean-up

On Saturday, September 15, 2007 the Creek Clean-up effort focused on eight westside tributaries. The challenge was to remove not only trash but also invasive vegetation. The eight tributaries are important watersheds which host a variety of wildlife as they traverse through some of Redding's oldest neighborhoods. Even though some have been channelized in concrete, the creeks bring a sense of nature to downtown Redding. The health of these creeks has a direct impact on our water quality and the flora & fauna of the area. By removing trash, overgrown in-stream vegetation and other debris, the 400+ volunteers assisted in the movement of winter rainfall to reduce flooding concerns in these flash-flow creeks.

Thank you to all who participated in the event, contributed funds or resources, or donated food and raffle prizes.

These eight westside tributaries have been cleared out of 30 tons of trash and choking vegetation thanks to the efforts of organizations including the Redding Rotary, California Conservation Corps, Good News Rescue Mission, Crystal Creek Boys Camp, City of Redding, creek photoBureau of Land Management, Shasta Service Guild, Shasta County and numerous community groups:
