ABOUT THE POSITIONS


Listed below are part-time job opportunities with Redding Community services, Recreation Division. If scheduled, interviews will begin the last week of November 2009 for winter programs, the first week of March 2010 for spring programs, and the first week of April 2010 for summer programs. Spring positions will begin with training in May. Minimum age for any position is 16. Applicants younger than 18 years of age must submit a work permit application. All new employees may be subject to fingerprinting and drug/alcohol screen prior to appointment. See back for more details.

FANTASY FOUNTAIN

  • FANTASY FOUNTAIN STAFF
  • (Recreation Leader)
    Minimum pay: $8.16 - $11.48/hour
    Jobs available: 5/10
    (25-30 hours per week)
    *Must possess or be willing to obtain Standard First Aid and CPR certificates.

SUMMER DAY CAMP PROGRAMS

  • INSTRUCTOR
  • (Recreation Instructor)
    Minimum pay: $10.52 - $14.81/hour
  • ASSISTANT
  • (Recreation Leader)
    Minimum pay: $8.16 - $11.48/hour

    (25-30 hours per week)
    *Must possess the desire and ability to lead recreation activities of elementary age students in a structured day camp setting and the ability to interact effectively with the public.

SPORT DAY CAMPS

  • CAMP LEADERS

    Minimum pay: $8.16 - $11.48/hour
    Jobs available: 6/10
    *Must possess the knowledge, desire and ability to lead sport specific activities of 7-14 year olds in a structured setting and the ability to interact effectively with the public.

ATHLETICS

  • UMPIRES & REFEREES
  • (Recreation Leader)
    Minimum pay: $8.16 - $11.48/hour
    Jobs available: 4/10 Youth Fast Pitch Softball, 6/10 Jr Giants Baseball, 3/10 & 8/10 Youth Volleyball, 7/10 Youth Flag Football, 7/10 Youth Soccer, 12/09 Youth Basketball
    *Experience officiating or participating in baseball, softball, soccer, football or volleyball; desire to work with young athletes; possess enthusiasm for sports; ability to interact effectively with the public and communicate clearly with participants and adults.
  • BALL DIAMOND MAINTENANCE
  • (Recreation Leader)
    Minimum pay: $8.16 - $11.48/hour
    Jobs available: 3/10
    (10-20 hours per week)
    *Maintenance and preparation of Redding area baseball/softball diamonds; must possess a valid California driver's license, or the ability to acquire one within ten days of employment; and the ability to interact effectively with the public and City employees.

AQUATICS

  • CASHIER
  • FACILITY MAINTENANCE WORKER
  • (Recreation Leader)
    Minimum pay: $8.16 - $11.48/hour
    Jobs available: Spring - Fall
    *Must possess current Standard First Aid, Community CPR certificates; and the ability to interact effectively with the public and City employees. Basic Water Rescue certificate highly desirable. Ability to work without immediate supervision, follow directions and be self motivated. Applicants need to be outgoing, fun, reliable and able to lead or implement activities and work with staff and customers.
  • LIFEGUARD
  • (Recreation Specialist)
    Minimum pay: $8.70 - $12.24/hour
    Jobs available: Spring - Fall
    *Must possess current Standard First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Title 22 and Lifeguard Training certificates; and the ability to interact effectively with the public and City employees.
  • SWIM LESSON INSTRUCTOR
  • (Recreation Instructor)
    Minimum pay: $10.52 - $14.81/hour
    Jobs available: Spring - Fall
    *Must possess current Standard First Aid, CPR for Professional Rescuer, and WSI certificates; ability to instruct swim lessons according to American Red Cross standards; and the ability to interact effectively with the public and City employees. Lifeguard Training and Title 22 certificates highly desirable.

CONTRACT POSITIONS ONLY

  • WATER SPORTS AND WATER FITNESS INSTRUCTOR
    Minimum pay: Negotiable
    Jobs available: Spring - Fall
    Special Classes - Knowledge of particular aquatics skills that can be taught to youth/adults, e.g., water fitness (deep water, shallow water, older adult, teen, etc.), synchronized swimming, diving, kayaking, canoeing, water polo, triathlon swim clinics, competitive swim clinics, water conditioning personal trainer, etc.
FOR CONTRACT POSITIONS - Do not complete a City application. Please obtain an instructor packet at the Redding Recreation Office, 1250 Parkview Avenue or call 225-4095.

APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS


Interested individuals must submit a City of Redding employment application form to the Personnel Department, 777 Cypress Avenue, Redding, CA 96001 weekdays between 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Applications must be typed or printed in ink. THOSE SUBMITTING APPLICATIONS AFTER MARCH 22 ARE NOT GUARANTEED AN INTERVIEW. Application forms are available at the Personnel Office, 777 Cypress Avenue, Redding CA 96001 or by phoning our 24 hour job hotline at 530-225-4069 or by downloading the application from the Job Announcements page at our web site at www.ci.redding.ca.us. When e-mailing any requests, include your name and post office mailing address.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

*Copies of required certificates must be attached to employment application.
