The City Surveyor leads the Surveys section of the Transportation and Engineering Department, consisting of a Surveys Party Chief and Engineering Technician, along with an Assistant Engineer. It is the goal of the Surveys section to maintain the most accurate information, while maintaining timeliness in all responses.

Surveys and Map Check provides:

Horizontal and vertical control for the City—geodetic control.
Construction Staking.
Preliminary Design—topographic surveys, hydrology surveys, and aerial mapping control.
Creation of exhibit drawings and legal descriptions.
Land title research.
Determination of property boundary and right-of-way.
Performing surveys of City-owned parcels, right-of-ways. and subdivisions.
Quality control/quality assurance for resolving discrepancies.
Map check all final maps, parcel maps, and legal descriptions processed within the City.
